Default Recording drums in my home studio - journal thread

It's my first post on the forum so - Hello!
    ylsmoke.gif

I'm starting this thread to show my journey with learning how to record and mix drums in my home studio (and some bit of music productions too), so any advice and tips are more than welcome!

    Here is my latest recording:

Some grooves inspired by my almost half-year stay in Central African Republic.

    Cheers!

Today some more experiments with postprocessing:

And something interesting happened by accident, shell shaker sounds like a delay on snare drum (no virtual FX's):

I just uploaded a bit older video (from previous rehearsal space) where I try to do some soloing over irregular metric chord vamp I did in Logic. It was definitely a fun challenge!

Today I uploaded a longer Youtube video. It's free improvisation, the goal was to use different dynamics and check the full mic setup - I wanted to achieve a clear sound of acoustic drums. I love this Gretsch Broadkaster kit, so inspiring to play.

Today I recorded some fun with a double snare drum setup. Dry, saturated sound was the goal, but I think I got tempted and added a bit too much reverb in the post:

You know, when I see your videos, I think of you as not just a drummer, but an artist. You have wonderful creativity and aren't afraid to step outside of the box to make your art. So cool!

This may be more in a [weird] music production field than recording, but I had enormous fun composing the track and recording drums to it. It may not be easy music to listen to, but I hope some folks will enjoy the tension intended. Cheers!

Just curious, what kind of bass drum do you play?

In this one, I tried to get very low tones from a tiny jazz drum kit (16" bass drum):

I actually got my first remote session gig last week (recording some loops and samples), super fun and I feel like I learned a lot. In the meantime, as a relaxation, I recorded a little improv with FX treatment:

I created some hip-hop (I guess?) loops and recorded drum beats on top (Kind of quintuplets/septuplets grooves), check this out:

Funny how I just clicked the two links in the previous post and much to my surprise it played both videos. Then I noticed the post above, clicked those links and it required me to sign into Instagram which I have no account and now none of the vids play without signing in, which I don't do.

    YMMV

Today some experiments - audio from iPhone but multiplied and obliterated with plugins... :D Additionally some synths. I was inspired by construction works nearby :P
