    Default My TD-27 kit

I started assembling a Roland ekit from the PD-85 pads I was using as external triggers to my SPD-SX. I added a PD-125, KD-9 kick trigger, VH-10 hats and a couple of CY-8 cymbals. For a while I was using a combination of the SPD-SX and my Yamaha DTX-500 for the module until I pulled the trigger on a TD-27 module. It took 6 weeks to arrive, but it's been worth the wait to say the least! Despite what I've read, I love the sound of the built-in kits on this module! I did spring for a pack of kits to install which sound like Bonham, Copeland, Tre Cool and Chad Smith and they are awesome as well. Just added 2 Lemon cymbals, a 15 ride/crash and an 18 ride. They are great, especially at 1/4 the price of Roland and others. Can't wait to gig with this thing in about a week!

Gosh, have that many years gone by? Seems like just yesterday I had a TD-7 Roland kit. Now they're up to 27! - Enjoy!

They were the revolutionary when they first came out. Amazing to look back and see how far everything has come. Think about it, that was before iPhones and Androids had come out.

Took out the new rig for 2 gigs this past weekend. A bar gig and my HS reunion. Sounded great in both cases, though some EQing was necessary at the bar. At the HS, we were set up in a hall with concrete block walls and bare floors on a small carpeted platform. I was afraid an acoustic kit would be impossible to contain in that environment. The ekit worked well, and I was able to get a good mix with the vocals, keyboards and percussion. I will be bring the ekit out to another bar gig this Friday. I ordered the compact Roland rack to hopefully make setup quicker and easier. It should arrive Friday, but I doubt I'll have enough time to get it ready to use for the gig. Saturday I'm subbing at a block party, where I'll be bringing an acoustic kit. I'll be stressing about the changeover, worrying that I'll forget something, but sound is provided so at least I don't have to worry about that part.
