There's a con about rack systems?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of a rack system? I have a fairly large set and I gig frequently, and I want an easier way of transporting all my drums and cymbals without most of the hassle.
It's a classic.

Neil Peart could have done it.
if you have a way to transport it with all the stands on it, it makes setup and teardown very quick, easy, and consistant. it is also very stable, you dont have to ever worry about a stand falling or getting knocked over. and in most cases it will hurt a drunk falling into your kit more than it will hurt your drums.

the advantage if you make lot of gig it the memory clamp that stay on the rack when you disassembly after the gig
quick to setup for the other gig or practice and it more solid

funky nailed it. Setup time and consistancy are huge when your gigging with a large kit. I gig with an 8 piece kit with 7 cymbals and 8 other effects pieces and it took me about 45 min. to setup everytime when I was using stands. With the rack I have now, it takes me 15 minutes and I don't have to do any constant adjusting to get everything set right where I want it. Plus, you have so many more positioning options with a rack than with stands.

My PDP Rack system. It never leaves the house but I prefer the rack to stands for versatility.

I think you should definately look into Pearls squared racks, absolutely no slippage at all, I think funkymcstain would agree with me that they are definately worth having.

I only use racks when I'm either playing a house gig or if I've got someone else setting up my gear for me. Otherwise I think they're just too cumbersome to carry around. Right now, I can get my whole 5 piece kit with soft bags into my small car. And I'm usually set up in 10 minutes.
Here's my rack:

although I know multiple stands are heavy as well, I will say that my icon rack isn't light by any means. transporting it can suck even in a nice skb hardshell wheeled case.

I can only tell you about the rack I have now. I had stands for my drums when I played professionally in the late 60's to mid 70's. I quit playing until recently and I bought this system (although I have a single bass this works great).

However; I never tear the kit down and it never leaves the "drum room". I would not want to tear a rack system down - this size anyway - every week. I personaly would go with stands even though there may be a lot of them and I was gigging and had to tear a kit down daily/weekly.
With the setup I have now there is just too many bits and pieces to have to tear down.
That's just my opinion and keep in mind I have very little experience tearing down and setting up this rack system - I've done it once.
I might add too that a rack system generally lets you place more pieces of equipment because when you use stands the legs can get in the way.

Speaking of rack systems. The price of that PDP jumped from about $275 to $399 at GC and MF ... and it's only a two sided rack.

No rack for me, I don't want to transport it, and I don't like the way they look!
