    Sticks will split and break. The time it takes depends how hard you play and how often. That's part of playing drums. I use wood tip sticks and the tips always seem to splinter and chip long before the stick will splinter or break.

    Same except mine also get whittled down in the middle due to hitting rimshots.

    If you are asking how to avoid the problem, check the angle of attack on your cymbals and specifically the hats. Another would be your technique with rim shots on the snare drum. Those two activities, IMHO contribute to most stick splintering. YMMV
