    Default Iwo--The Survivors

I was reading stories about Iwo Jima from men who fought there (and survived) and how they remember it.

As far as anyone can tell there are only 22 men left from the battle and 1 of the 27 Medal of Honor men is still alive.

I had 2 future uncles that fought there and neither of them got a scratch. My Uncle Bob took 6 machine gun bullets on Tarawa and somehow they didn't hit anything vital although it took a year for him to fully recover.

22 men and neither of my uncles are among them.

I had an older friend, one of the toughest little guys I've known, who fought there. Maybe the shortest Marine ever, he was a tunnel rat. He told me about some of his experiences,I would have been terrified. God bless them.
