I see it Rick. I think the snares sound a little looser than usual.

Thats the DrumDial snare drum. I only had it for a day and it's pretty slick. The tuning can be changed very quickly, and you don't have to flip the drum over to tune the reso head. Changing the batter head wasn't quite as quick as in the video but I probably didn't have the hoop as loose as I should have. It's the metal drum and it's heavy but it is solidly built.

Is it worth almost $700 (metal snare), probably not but with the cost of everything sky high, I wasn't surprised. My 1st set of Ludwigs cost me $325 for the set. 22,13x9, 16x16 and 18x16 with the stands, no cymbals. The cymbals 14" hats, 20"ride, and 2 18" crash cymbals, all Zildjian, cost about $150 (give or take a few $'s). That set also included a Supraphonic. That was 1961. Those were great days, too bad that we will never see them again.

After you play around with that DialTune let us know what you think of it. I've been thinking of getting one. About ten years after you got your Ludwigs I got my first " real" drums. Ludwig Standards, snare, 12 in. Tom, and 20 in. bass, cost me $350. I worked all summer on a farm to earn enough to buy them.

I was going to do a video about it, probably tonight.

I saw somewhere on YouTube that there is a company that makes a set with basically the same type of tuning. It's a screw and gear tuning mechanism. The downside (at least to me) is that when you turn the screw it tensions both batter and reso at the same time. I've never had a drum set that any of the drums had the same tension on both heads.

I've never tuned both heads to the same tension. Might be a little ringy.

Single tension tuning has been around for a very long time.
Picture the marching drums with the rope tension.
Also vintage drums have had them.

I think I see what you’re talking about Rick, called Welch tuning system.
Same idea of rope tension but with wire,
pulley’s and a locking gear.

That's the one. I knew that they had been around for a long time, but they basically served 1 purpose. I think that this company is going to make complete sets with that tuning system.

The DialTune snare is a slick idea. You can work with it right from where you sit and probably change a batter head in less than 30 seconds. That can't be said for that method on a complete drum set.

They have made a set with this tuning system. It’s kind of slick for quick tuning. It’s kind of like a bass guitar tuning peg tightening the wire pulling both heads simultaneously utilizing the pulley system. I’ve watched a video on them changing heads but seemed a little challenging because you need to pull the wire out of the pulley system to replace the heads then re-fish it through the pulley’s and tuning peg mechanism after doing so. I would think that if you pulled the wire out half way around the drum, one might be able to slide out the batter head if it can clear the pulley’s connected to the rim…maybe.

The DialTune is really a nice system. It's the snare drum, it sits right in front of you. If some drummer is playing and breaks either the snares or the reso head, that person is an idiot beyond all possible redemption and should be given paper and crayons and put in a room someplace. As for a busted snare batter head, 30-40 seconds and it can be changed and tuned.

My 2nd wife should have had a mechanism like that, would have made my life a lot easier back then.

"My second wife". Some heads are worth fixin', some maybe not.

I don’t believe you can change the batter head in 30-40 seconds. It’s little more challenging than that. The reso snare side head, you’d have to remove the snare wires like any drum from the throw off and butt plate first using a drum key. Even if you could change it in that speed, when’s the last time you needed to do that? Just bring another snare drum.
The 3 pc. shell kit I have pictured above goes for $2200 or so, not counting the $650 snare drum. As for me, I’ll pass on that one.
