Default Practice kit - opinions :)

Hi all - Happy New Year!!

I'm looking to buy a compact practice kit to use in my flat and have found these two for a decent price.

This looks ok but pads look naff and none changeable (emailed about this)

    Pads look better (possibly tuneable)

The other option is a Dragon mesh set off of eBay for ~£130
Advantage of having a full setup with hi hat etc

If you had the choice of these 3 which would you go for (beginner) - or any other recomendations for roughly the same price would be appreciated

    Cheers
    Neil

    yeah... I say the third...
although it looks like it may still put out a little bit of volume.

Thanks guys - ye the 3rd one is actually pretty loud (seen a video on a site somewhere which I can't find now :p). It's also not the most compact......
    Ah decisions, decisions

Wish I could have a full kit in the flat......

With regard to TD502, the whole "tuneable" thing is not really that helpful when it comes to practice pads. You can get different tension from it but not much pitch or tone variation, so it's relatively worthless IMO.

I like the first one. Used to have one similar to it when I was in college and in an apartment. As for the 3rd one, I'm just not a fan of mesh heads. I never liked the feel of them.

    Hi guys

Having slept on it I'm thinking of going with the first - can you get practice hit hat (plastic) or should I just get a real hi hat setup with a silencer?

If you want practice cymbals you can get a full set of pintech practice cymbals at musicians friend.com but you won't get the cymbal tone out of them. If you want some tone but still want to keep the noise down, you can get the HQ hi-hat mute.

I actually have one of the Remo kits like the one shown with the tunable pads. It does its job admirably and I also purchased some practice cymbals (Look and feel like real cymbals but are plastic) and used that for a year or two to practice on. Worked great, and was quite but had good feel!
