You can use all kinds of fills without double bass that will work in metal music. Just pull them off the records.

I agree there are hundreds of things you can do with no double bass. One of those things is to play licks with the floor tom and bd so that you get a double bass kind of sound.
sorry guys but i say if you`re gonna stick with metal either learn triplets on the single pedal or get a double .there really is no substitute for that double bassdrum sound on metal .
btw this is only my opinion .

if you ever heard of megadeth they are an amazing metal band who dot use double bass, sorry no luck with the tabs tho im searchin too

just think of ur bass drum as just another drum...basically a really big floor tom and if u think of it like that the fills just come naturally

Double bass helps by expanding the possibilities, but it's not 100% needed. Two great examples;

If you can master the heel - toe method, you can make it sound like a double bass without actually having one. I've seen guys make their bass drum sound like a machine gun on a single pedal! Just takes LOTS of practice!
