You can use all kinds of fills without double bass that will work in metal music. Just pull them off the records.
Also drumbum has a place as a sort of hub for all the tab sites.

I agree there are hundreds of things you can do with no double bass. One of those things is to play licks with the floor tom and bd so that you get a double bass kind of sound.

sorry guys but i say if you`re gonna stick with metal either learn triplets on the single pedal or get a double .there really is no substitute for that double bassdrum sound on metal .

btw this is only my opinion .

just think of ur bass drum as just another drum...basically a really big floor tom and if u think of it like that the fills just come naturally

    Double bass helps by expanding the possibilities, but it's not 100% needed. Two great examples;

    Vinnie Appice = performed with:
    Ronnie James Dio (Dio)
    Rick Derringer
    Danny Johnson
    Black Sabbath
    The Lizards
    Carmine Appice
    Jimmy Bain
    Kenny Aaronson
    Claude Schnell
    Tony Iommi
    Vivian Campbell
    Geezer Butler
    Angelo Arcuri
    Axis
    Jeff Pilson
    Geoff Nichols
    Jay Davis
    Cage
    World War III
    Axis Bruzer
    The McCoys
    ...and many more

    Nicko McBrain = performed with:
    Iron Maiden
    Streetwalkers
    Pat Travers
    Trust
    Stretch
    Adrian Smith
    Dave Murray
    Bruce ****inson
    Steve Harris
    Janick Gers
    Blaze Bayley
    Nigel Green
    Paul Di'Anno
    Roger Chapman
    John "Charlie" Whitney
    Bob Tench
    Jon Plotel
    Pete Cowling
    Fredy Studer
    Doug Sampson
    Tony Wilson
    Tony Parsons
    Dennis Wil****
    Dennis Stratton
    Mick McKenna
    Bert Hermiston
    Clive Burr
    ...and many more

If you can master the heel - toe method, you can make it sound like a double bass without actually having one. I've seen guys make their bass drum sound like a machine gun on a single pedal! Just takes LOTS of practice!

Tommy Aldridge uses that. I have his "Drum soloing and double-bass workout" video. GREAT video!!! He uses double-bass with that method on each foot. Awesome!!
