Yeah, I hate to say it, but "decent" cymbal packs start around $200-$250. That would be the Sabian B8's and the Zildjian ZBT type cymbals. These are stamped cymbals, but they are the step up from the "trash can lid" cymbals that come with most starter sets. But if you've got to start somewhere, get the kit with the starter cymbals, and then save for the next upgrade.

I agree with all that has been said before, and will add that there is nothing more deflating to a drummer than to cringe everytime thay hit a terriable sounding cymbal. Buy the best you can afford, that cannot be stressed enough!
I started with a Sabian B8 pack and that suited me fine, I'd recommend them. They'll last ages and the little extra you'll pay for them will be worth it in the long run.

Look into dream bliss or dream contact cymbals- theyll be much better than zbts or whatever and theyre dead cheap- dont know how much in dollars or if theyre out of your range, but theyre certainly cheaper than the big brands.

at a music store near my house they have a zildjian zbt pro pack that comes with 14" hi hats, a 16" crash, an 18" crash, and a 20" ride for like $330. would you say this is a pretty good deal?
If I get to go to the shop Sunday to hear the APX line I will post a review. Negativeattitude lives close by and he may go as well. I really need some new hats but have limited funds. Im gonna check these out first and if the sound good I may get a pair since they are around 200 bucks. The ZHT hats run about 150 and I must say Im very impressed with them. Here is a link to the video that was shot at the shop featuring the ZHT hats.

I don't have anything bad to say about the ZBT's, they may not compare to better, more expensive cymbals, but they sound pretty good and are extremely durable.
Congrats dude for the right buyin'.....
You'll be satisfied enough...ZBT is the best item you got around that price....
It's true +100 ....I don't have anything bad to say about the ZBT's, they may not compare to better, more expensive cymbals, but they sound pretty good and are extremely durable.
