Thanks for sharing Ploughman, Your kits are simply stunning! How do you decide which kit to play, and do you prefer one over the other?

For what to play .... really determined by where I am going. I will very seldom play either of the two 60s rogers kits outdoors. Since I have owned the Blue set above,.......that gig there is the one and only time theyve played out in an outdoor setting. Size of the room and acoustics have a lot to do with it as well. And then theres color..... They all sound equally great, but are different in their own individual ways.

Thank you all for your kind words.

Ploughman, do you have a specific way of figuring out what kit you're going to play for what gig? Obviously, you don't want to play your huge silver Rogers kit for the retirement home gig - although I'm sure they could all just turn off their hearing aids if you're playing too loudly.

Does what kit you play just depend on the situation, or what you feel like playing? I'm not sure how I would decide what to play when the time came. Do you prefer one kit over the other? What's your favorite kit? I would play that blue sparkle kit all the time. It's a thing of beauty.

I currently have a bad case of gear envy.

There is no certain criteria. I just always try to make sure what I brings is going to be properly adequate for each gig.

And that blue does get out alot.

As would i. Its beautiful. How did you find them... or know you want to buy them ploughman? You dont just find vintage kits laying around and adopt them. especially in those conditions?

Both of the early 60s kits represent a lot of time and work hunting. Hunting means having patience, doing your research, knowing what to look for, and mainly never getting in a hurry. It also requires the discipline of not settling for less, and for resisting the buy urge on other things. Really great kits have a way of showing up when you are absolutely broke.
I explained the story behind the blue sparkle kit. As for teh Pink Ripple..... I just loved that finish. Had to have it. As time passes, there are fewer and fewer vintage kits in that kind of condition.

As promised. Update to Snare drums.

    New Addition

1981 Rogers SuperTen 8x14 XP10 .... 10 ply all maple, great snare drum.
First one on the right. Deep snare with tone control knob. The superten had a bit more snare bed, although still very slight by most common standards, extremely sensitive drum. No snare frame. Original 20 strand wires.

I think you need a little psychiatric help with that Rogers obsession.

I used to collect like that, well not like that I was not branded, but I just constantly bought and sold, but I see you are not disciplined in the selling part of it though. Very nice, all kidding aside.

I mentioned this somewhere before but Did you know some Rogers kits were made under licence in the UK by Boosey and Hawkes who also made the Beverly line for Premier.
