This set took me a long time to find. The set I learned on was a Rogers in this same color. When I moved back to my home town several years ago, I began looking for them, trying to contact the person who I knew had bought them in 1976. Turns out they were eventually destroyed through neglect. Stored in a barn and well, they are no more. So I started hunting, and after several attemps at buying, looking at probably 20 or more sets....I found this one.
14x20, 8x12, 14x14, 16x16.
Snare Drum is a 1963 Rogers Cleveland Powertone, Sparkling Blue Pearl, 5x14 maple.
Period Correct Cymbal Stands, Tama Pedals, Paiste 2002 Cymbals.
As a 20-12-14 from a recent retirement home gig.
This set is purely a player.
The 14x20 virgin bass drum came to me with a horrible recover job. I had some silver metallic Rogers wrap that had never been used, so I put a small set together.
14x20, 8x12, 16x16.
I use DW 9000 series hardware with this set, hanging the tom off a double cymbal stand rear mount, and of course Tama Iron Cobra Pedals.
This set........ we have been through a lot. This was my first set of drums, that I bought. Nov. 1979. These drums were exactly two years old, and still like new. They cost my 950.00 ( a LOT of money 28 years ago) and that was less than half what I priced them at, (above 2000.00)
They came to me as a 14x24, 9x13, 10x14, 12x15, 16x18 with a 5x14 COB Dynasonic snare. Rogers Hardware for everything, Econoline Fiber Cases for everything, and Paiste 2002 Cymbals.
Currently, 14x24, 9x13, 16x16, 16x18. I sold the 14 and 15, picked up a matching 16x16. I like this setup. Its a timeless classic.
That is a 1982 Rogers Fullerton Big R XP10 Maple Dynasonic Snare.
I built this set from orphans.
16x18 Bass drum formerly a floor tom
8x12 Tom
14x14 Floor Tom was a raw keller shell.
Snare Drum....... the green one....... is a 1969 Slingerland six lug maple and the Green Glitter wrap, is original.
To start with, my 14x14 was on a RIMS cradle. I changed that to Rogers Fullerton era cast floor tom mounts and hex legs. The 12 mounted on a DW Concert Snare stand, and now........ as pictured, it rides on a Rogers Cleveland era tom mount. The cleveland era mounts are probably worth as much as the drums.

Now these drums have a super story.
I had sold a big set of Rogers, and dearly wanted to buy a brand new set of something. This was April 2001, I had the money. I almost made a deal on a set of Yamaha Maple Custom Absolutes, but just wouldnt pull out the wallet. The very next week, as I am headed to the music stores in Modesto CA, I stop in at the pawn shop. They had a drum case. Wouldnt sell it without the drum. Off I go, to the other pawn shop in town, that I was told also had a drum case or two. They did. I bought the drums with the cases, raced back to the first pawn shop, bought that drum and its case......... came home with...........
16x22, 10x12, 16x16 Ayotte Custom Drums, steel hoop, in Shaded Cherry Gloss, in absolutely fabulous condition for well under 500.00. I had some hardware, and picked up some more and um....... life sometimes smiles on you.
Three years later I am in the local Music Go Round, on my Birthday, ...... and theres a Ayotte Custom Snare...... steel hoop, in Piano Black Gloss. And I look at it..... thinking that would be nice if it was the right color. But the number on the drum looked a little fishy, and so I went home, and looked at my drums. The serial on the snare was sequential. So I went back... with my wife of course. And we bought it.
So I have a configuration rescued from hell that came together from the factory. And for less than a set of Exports.
Here they are, enjoy. Shown here with Zildjian K Custom Cymbals Gospel gig, First Baptist 2006
The 14x14 is a Mapex Maple. The color is almost a perfect match.
Here with Paiste 2002 Cymbals, Gospel Benefit Concert, Oct. 2007, Webers Point Stockton CA.

Ploughman, you have got some absolutely stunning kits! I am a huge fan of vintage Rogers kits ( I'm looking for some myself. I have a couple toms, looking for the rest) and the blue sparkle kit would be a dream come true for me. I also really like the Ayotte kit. The 1 up, 2 down configuration is very comfortable.
Welcome to Drum chat and thank you for sharing your kits. They are beautiful!

I can't believe your collection...!
You have all these drum sets!
You MUST be the happiest drummer in the world!
Just love the drums and they will love you too!!!
The fourth drum with the cherry Ayotte Custom is a Mapex 14x14 Maple. The color was a perfect (almost) match. An Ayotte Custom drum made in my color was going to run aproximately 900-1100 bucks.
I bought the mapex for a Bill.
I have a nice Rogers snare. I acquired it through my friend, he was going to throw it away, haha.
It's a classic.
• How many drummers does it take to change a lightbulb?
Five: One to screw the bulb in, and four to talk about how much better
Neil Peart could have done it.
I love drums so much I could look at them all day long and not even touch them. That's not going to happen with me but, glad to see that you are able to live your dream. Fantastic!! I love Rogers but, when I bought my kit back in 1964, I chose the Ludwig Classic set in red sparkle. If I ever figure how to post pictures here, I'll do that. I still play them with a 17 pc. big band. They look and sound wonderful.
