Ludwig made one too, They are highly collectable now and bring good money on Ebay. A friend of mine had a set years ago that was stolen. But they where really loud and not overly warm in tone. (Think what a stainless steel snare sounds like) The good thing is you didn't have to be overly worried about weather conditions, and they where durable as all get out!

You'd think they'd pretty high in tuning range but from what I've heard they are just normal drums that weigh a ton more than more than normal drums.

Those are beautiful, I like the contrast with the black Chrome hardware against the polished stainless steel!

Without hearing them I know one thing they will be loud! I would imagine they are being marketed to metal type music and I think they would fit the bill beautifully in that genre of music.

Anybody know what the price is on those drums? I bet they're spendy because they are stainless steel and the price of steel these days is exorbitant,

    Default stainless steel kit

The first one I saw was played by Carl Palmer (see ELP). He had British Steel make it for him and the kit weighed in at 2.5 tons - the bass (he played single bass at the time) weighed 350 lbs.! - So I've read.

It was a nice kit under the lights and he's a pretty good player - under-rated in my view. The kit has hand-carved hunting scenes on the shells.

Yes - they would be loud, but if you're going for loud then they would be nice!

    Those Tama's look awesome!

Wow Kona, 350lbs. was it an inch thick material? I read somewhere in years past about that kit too. But I don't remember what the specs were. But for a bass drum to weigh that much the material had to solid and thick. And if that was the case I wonder what Carl was trying to achieve with that. It seems that it would be all head resonance and zero shell resonance. I am going to reaearch that out now you have peeked my interest.

Wow all of a sudden the kit seems impractable...

Imagine touring around the country with a semi just carrying your kit? Cost would be huge. Someone would have to be financing the tour.

The expense of touring with all that gear and trucks and taking an 88 piece orchestra along plus all the road crew was what caused problems for Emerson, Lake and Palmer in the 70's.

I could see that happening on TV with the Warlord, but man, that's a wicked-lookin' kit...wouldn't mind grabbin' some sticks and tryin' it out...

As Kathie Lee Gifford used to say, "I can't believe I said that!"

(I suspect it would have more of a metallic overtone to it...highly tuned, could they resemble timbales?)

Bet you'd use mucho stainless-steel polish to keep it lookin' good, man...
keep the beat goin' ... Don't keep it to yourself!
