I'm not sure what to do. I'm not a cymbal cleaning fanatic. I'm here in the Bahamas where the air is not only quite humid but also quite salty from the ocean that surrounds us. It wreaks havoc on all things metal. Tools, plumbing fixtures, appliances, vehicles etc... I'm noticing lately, many light green crusty spots popping up like acne on my cymbals. I'm wondering if I should take these back to Canada and just use some cheap clunkers down here. At the price of quality cymbals these days, I cannot stand idly by and let my investments disintegrate. Any advice?

    all the best...

    Last show I played.
I heard though that if you don't clean them and they become weathered that they'll sound warmer or something.

Your supposed to clean them? Other than running a dust cloth over mine when I dust the rest of the room I don't bother to clean them.

    high quality brass polish
    dont use groove juice
    it is suuuuuuper acidic
for the cymbals that have a brillian finish(really shiny)
i would say to polish those
but usually people let rides get nice and dirty
    it does warm them up

A couple of weeks ago. Like Funky says, A Customs have to be shiny but I've never cleaned any others.

Can't say I've had any problems with Groove Juice, Kjbakke2, but I haven't been using it that long. What effect will it have that I need to worry about? Spraying it on, leaving it a minute and then rinsing it off leaves mine looking like mirrors.

it can make them brittle with extended use
    and brittle means cracks
i would suggest the zildjian polish
    or just normal brass polish
or when you use groove juice
    wet your cymbals first
light mist and then rub rather than just letting it sit on
i would say about thirty seconds at max

Ok, maybe Im a little obsessed...
But I clean my cymbals (the ones that get used, not the ones in storage) at least once a month.

I use Paiste cymbal cleaner only... and am very gentle. In many many years of doing this, I have never damaged a logo.
I have Paistes that I have had for 20+ years, that look brand new. Seriously.

The hi hats and the splash in this pic, I bought brand new in 1987. Yes, I said 1987.
