True dat man lol. I've made my own little sizzler. I mean if it sounds cool do it. How do you think we get all the percussion things like brake drums? Someone took a car brake hit it and was like "That sounds cool!" Or something like that lol... So yeah if it sounds cool go for it!

I have my bottom PST3 hat as an effect. Turning cymbals upside down doesn't really make a difference I don't think.

Not to be a downer, but I agree with 32nd, I don't see what difference it will make in sound!

turning cymbals upside down makes a little difference in sound but nothing special.
I guess that those crappy crash cymbals sound more like china than crash

You know, it's kind of nice to learn what other drummers think but never be afraid to try something you think might have merit. And, if it really sounds like you "Hit" on something, be sure to report back to here so we can learn from you.

Hello Hello. Im new here but decided i'd post on this thread coz i have some relevance haha.
I actually had a real cheap 16" paiste 302 crash that i stopped using and was lying around for ages. I was bored one day and got into my dads shed and grabbed a mallet...needless to say i hit that cymbal a few times and turned it into a china.
Surprisingly it sounds more like a china then i thought it would and now use it pretty often. If its cheap and crap then dont be afraid to knock it around abit.

    Whats there to lose?

A friend of mine got a set of really crappy Pearl cymbals with his kit, and he's since since gotten a set of Sabian B8s, so he doesn't use the pearl ones any more. With a little bit of effort (not much, though), one can essentially flip the bottom pearl hat inside out, so that it's shaped like a china. OFten when I play on his kit, I'll do that, and it sounds like a china as well.

Hey there jerimiah. I know what you mean with turning the cymbal inside out. I tried it with the crash before i hammered it and it didnt sound any good (hence the hammering haha) but if it works for you then why not right?
I need to take pics of the cymbal (my panel beater friend was pretty impressed haha) and a couple other things to show people...i'll definitely post them up.
Thanks for the warm welcome guys
