Question The Paint is coming off my hi-hat cymbal..

I play my drums a lot and the paint is coming off... its getting worse.. I would like to know if it is because:
    1. It's cheap and that's what happens with cheap cymbals
    2. I'm playing it too hard
    3. i'm playing it too much
    4. all cymbals do that...

it's only about a month or 2 old... so this shouldn't be happening should it? it's the same hi-hat cymbals that came with the kit... and they're DXP... and Planet Z cymbals won't do the same will it???

I'm not sure what you mean by paint coming off. Do you mean like actual gold/copper/tin flakes coming off or just the painted logo? Can you explain in more detail please? BTW, yes DXP are cheap. I've never heard such a thing with cymbals ....hmmmm. Blessings......

I mean that the gold colour is coming off the cymbal and leaving Gold marks on my drum sticks and revealing a silver colour underneath the gold.. it's not just the logo, it's the part where i hit it with the drum stick :P

i'll see if somehow i can get a pick of it and show you...

That sounds bad, I had the same problem with my ZHT hi-hats, though not my Planet Z's. What are cleaning your cymbals with? I found out the reason it was happening was because I had exposed the hi-hats to a little more server moister than my other cymbals. I wouldn't worry a lot about it, though mine don't leave marks on my sticks.

Wow, it sounds like you are saying that your cymblas are not only sheet metal, thay are not even bronze or brass... I am not familiar with that brand but it sounds as if they are painted sheet steel. Save for some higher end hats, you shouldn't be experiencing that problem.

Im thinking along the same lines as btd , It may be because you have a cheaper set of cymbals , I dont know what you have but they shouldnt be peeling or flaking off .

Your cymbals are brass plated discs, probably made from re-cycled cars. There is only one realistic solution...As soon as you can afford it...buy some real cymbals!

On the brighter side, it is very commendable that you are practicing so much, that this is happening to these metal disks of yours. It is a testament to your enthusiasm for playing drums

    all the best...

Kay-gee, I don't know that those are even brass plated, it looks like good old fashion paint over sheet metal to me. Sorry Drummergirl, you will need to upgrade to real bronze to stop the problem.

Why would you want paint on your cymbals? I did all I could to get the stamps off of mine.

It's all part of the crappy lacquering/stamping processes used with inexpensive cymbals.

Do yourself a favor and upgrade.

No, I still won't play Wipe Out.
