how do i get the ring off of the hole on the bass drum skin without breaking the skin?
it keeps vibrating and everytime i hit the bass drum it sounds like a fart, been putting up with it for over a year now and have had enough, any suggestions?

Are the halves of the ring fully together? because it shouldn't be making that noise. And taking it off and playing a head with a hole in it is asking for your head to break, I learned that the hard way.

Shoot WD40 around the hole and let it sit for a couple of minutes, and then it should come off easily. If it is a coated head i don't know if WD40 will stain or not. Another way is to heat it with a blow dryer both front and back and pull slightly and the adheasive should let go.

You could also try using a piece of carpet or some type of padding in your bass drum , and try to adjust the lugs to remove the noise before you mess up the head .

They are called "holz" and are sold to protect the hole in the head from tearing when you use a mic through it
