Question Question about an old Slingerland set

Do any of our drum historians recall a set that was sold by Slingerland sometime in the 1970's, maybe from 1974 to 1976?

If I recall correctly, it was a jazz-style set finished in red-white-and-blue stripes of sparkle-finish material (red/white/blue/white/red) like flag stripes. It's a design I've never seen before (or since, since I traded it in as a down payment on my current set), and I suspect it was offered for the Bicentennial...

I owned such a set when I first began drumming in 1984; it was used when I bought it and was missing its bottom heads. Looked pretty ratty but had Evans Hydraulics on them and sounded pretty darn good. I'm afraid if I were to find a similar set now, I won't find it at the same price I bought it !!!

BB, I couldn't tell you what year and I'm not that great with the vintage thing, but I can tell you that I've seen them over the last 5 years. Many companies came out with red, white, and blue drums right after 9-11.

Yea, it'd probably cost you a pretty penny for something with a custom finish like that.

Default Question about an old Slingerland set

Drummer, this one was definitely from the 1970's, since the previous owner is one of my co-workers at my radio station job--and it was used when he bought it about 1980 or '81. Since the 1974-1976 period produced a lot of Bicentennial-themed items (like the "Spirit of America" Chevy Impalas, Novas and Caprices), I suspect it may have been either special-ordered or was a limited-edition set.

    Thanks, bro'--
