DRUMMERBOCK
hmmm I am about to have to be in the same boat.... sometimes ya just gotta break down and look at a thesaurus...
Actually, many band names are based on literary allusions, such as these...
The Doors (quotation from a poem)
New Riders of the Purple Sage (adaptation of an Ernest Hemingway title)
Uriah Heep (a character in a Charles ****ens novel)
Genesis (may be a stretch because Genesis means "beginnings", and Phil Collins may not have been thinking of the first book of the Old Testament)
...just grab your favorite reading material and start there!

Find a phrase from a movie, game, book, group you all like and grab a phrase from there. I was on a bowling team one summer (don't laugh) and we were all fans of The Godfather movies so we just sat around and came up with team names from the movies like:
Fredo goes fishing
In bed with a horse head
Sonny's toll booth suprise
something like that could be funny and like an inside joke to those in the know. you know?
Ernie
I like your ideas Ernie!
Catcher in the Rye
I love that book. This guy thinks everyone is crazy and it turns out he's the crazy one all along. Or play off the title like Rye Catcher lol I dunno... that's all I got.

How about taking a cue from The Producers - you could name your band "Springtime for Hitler". I wonder what kind of reaction a band would get if they actually took the stage with that name...?

I think the best name for a band is FREE BEER!
Seriously though, a name for a Metal band is tricksy..
my vote goes to ROADKILL, MATRIX, DEADSTONE or possibly DARKLIGHT.
Perhaps an anagram of the band members initials??
Good luck on your quest.
Heres one ..... SLUG

As you can see, there are various sources for coming up with names for your band. One thing to watch out for is Brand Naming. Be careful not to get involved with names or titles that are copyrighted. The band "Chicago" had originally called themselves "Chicago Transit Authority." That didn't go over very well with the city of Chicago and, thus, they were forced to choose another name and simply evolved into CHICAGO. I wrote an article about my best friend and thought that the title would be an interesting name for a band.."Once Had A Bass Drummer." Talk about implications...
"There's a woman in the United States who predicted the plane we were traveling on would crash. Now, a lot of people would like to think we were scared into saying a prayer. What we did actually--we drank."
