    Default Sabian Chopper anyone??

    Hey all,

Anyone own or heard this - http://www.gearwire.com/sabian-chopper.html

I am about to make a little custom cymbal holder mount to take 3 or 4 small ( 6 -10' ) splash or effects cymbals, maybe like a small O-Zone, a Zil Bell , 6 or 8 splash etc

I am looking for 'different' little short sounds and thought this might be cool.
I assume its just a short crisp 'chick?' type sound that may be harsh rather than sweet??

    Any clues

Wotto, I didn't know anything about it until you posted this. I'm not sure it would be my thing, but I would be interested if you find out anything more about it.

I have seen a lot of new effects type cymbals coming out lately but have yet to actually hear/try anything yet. They might be just the ticket given the right application. I am the type though that when I am considering something like that I have to consider how often I think I would use it, and would the cost justify the application.

i saw a a guy a cuople weekends ago that was using an o-zone crash stacked on an inverted china, and was getting a very cool white noise sound out of it. it had a longer decay than i imagine that chopper is designed for. do you know how much the chopper costs? that seems like alot of metal, and would be pricy.

I don't know but I wonder of those effects cymbals are made out of blemished or second cymbals that didn't make the cut. That may be the reason they are really not that expensive.

i' m very interested to hear how this strange cymbal (?) sounds.
But, is 100$ enough for a good cymbal?

Honestly i own one. i own the 12 inch and to be perfectly honest this cymbal kicks some serious butt. not gonna lie. it's a complete effect cymbal you want it on an angle. like this / so you can actually strike it. you dont really crash it. it's more or less for additional Effects in fills ECT. it sounds sorta liek a tambourine but much more like a shaker. when i get the microphones for my computer i will record some good stuff with it

I tried a chopper in a shop and I didn't much care for it.
But that is only my opinion!

I've heard it sounds similar to the Mike Portnoy Max Stax cymbals, which is a mini-china on top of a splash. Just little white noise accents I guess...I personally don't think i'd ever have a use for it.

I wonder if they call it the chopper because of what it does to sticks?

I like white noise effects, but I think I would just put two cymbals together to make a stack, that way I could separate them if I wanted.

Like anything.. unless you see it used, or how it can be used it's benefits and usefulness is hard to appreciate.
