Default Guess what I got my hands on today...

I acquired this in my never ending quest to be the busiest drummer around. I recently joined my schools show choir by of course, playing set. We were digging in the back of the room looking for the stands and cymbals, and we ran into this pedal. The director said they found that years ago and nobody has claimed it, and I could have it if I'd like. Granted it's one of the newer models, but it feels just as good as the vintage ones I've played. This is definitely a great addition to my collection.
    It's a classic.

HaHa! We used to call this the "Squeak" King. I have had mine since 1964 when I bought my kit. Several years ago, I bought a Tama Iron Cobra because I thought I needed something better? Mine was squeaking to beat all. A few years ago, the metal linkage broke. I went to local music store to the drum pro and he got me a new linkage that has plastic bushings. Guess what?? That's right!! No more squeaks. I alternate my pedals since I have them...and like them both. Recently, that drum pro was telling me that the new Speed Kings are very similar to what I have but have been vastly improved upon and, consequently, quite expensive. So, did you come by a good deal?? Absolutely you did. Take care of that pedal, young man, and it will give you everything you would ever want from it.

A small price to pay for learning a few Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood songs, haha! I don't care, music is music to me, so I enjoy everything I play. Playing with the choir is going to be a great experience, and I got a pretty great pedal out of it.

Outstanding JD - that is one fine looking Speedking. Still got mine from back in the late '60's and oh, yeah, does she squeak! No amount of 3 in 1 oil will do the trick - maybe it's time for a rebuild and those plastic bushings!! I actually am letting my boys learn on the LSK. Good for you on a great score!

I just got done playing around on my Ludwig kit, and that pedal is incredibly responsive. I didn't get much of a squeak, in fact, I don't even think there was squeaking at all. Anyways, if I were to recommend a good single pedal, this is definitely one to check into.

Hey, jd09, buy us lottery tickets, man!

That's gotta be the biggest score anyone's made on a classic pedal! Might be fun to find out approximately how old that is (serial number or other distinctive characteristics)!

And if it isn't squeaking too bad, so much the better...

    Way to go, bro'!

Standard deal, I like what I see; I'll expect it at my door in a week. Thanks.

Very good pedal, I've been lucky enough to play them once or twice in my short career as a drummer, one of the fastest pedals I've ever seen. Shame no-one except Bonham really used them to their full potential.

Sounds like this pedal went to a drummer with a great attitude and love for playing. Love your comment about enjoying everything you play. SpeedKing has found a good home.

All you need is a little 3-in-one oil and vaseline. Greatest pedal on the planet. I own 2 of them.

Free stuff is the best. I once came across a pile of roadside trash during annual clean up. Son was away at college and mom cleaned out his room. I got same pedal, a 1957 14" ludwig tom, a small set of Stewarts, and a set of vintage Instanbul K hi hats.
