    Default A Leedy Gem

I recently bought this Slingerland/Leedy kit with a keystone badge Ludwig Acrolite for $400. They are from the mid sixties, I have a bid on ebay for a Leedy floor tom from the same era. The floor tom is a 16x16 in blue sparkle, but will be rewrapped in silver sparkle to match these. This will be a nice kit to compliment my Ludwigs.

    Cool Re: A Leedy Gem

Sounds like a set in transition, man, because Leedy was once part of the Ludwig drum company, and for many years put out Ludwig-Leedy brand drums...if my facts are straight, however, Slingerland took over the rights to the Leedy name sometime in the 60s...

    cool set there, JR...

Slingerland bought Leedy in the early sixties I believe. They used the same Slingerland 3ply shells on the Leedys, but used the Leedy hardware. They stopped production of the Leedy line in 1966, the year these were made.

Back in the day Leedy was the biggest drum company around, when Ludwig was first starting out Leedy was top dog.

The full Leedy kit, the floor tom came in today, it's a 16x16 in a blue glitter finish. The drum sounds fantastic, I just need to decide if I want to recover it silver sparkle or recover the other drums blue glitter.

recover the floor tom in silver sparkle. You have on drum as opposed to two to by covering for and silver sparkle is always in style!!!!

Yeah it would look cool silver sparkle, but the wrap on the floor tom looks so clean I hate to tear it off. Maybe I'll just leave it the way it is, or rewrap the 12 in red sparkle and have a very patriotic kit, well silver could pass for white, I've seen it done.

Go for the silver...really classy looking under the lights. Or if it is predominantly a home set, don't bother...just leave as is. Enjoy!

    all the best...
