I recommend the G2's. The Performance heads are way to damp to get that natural ring.

Try the Evans EC2's
EC2's are designed to take away the ring and naturality of your toms. I preferred them for studio work and whatnot. Same with Aquarian Performance heads.

with a unmuffled tom they let them ring without overtones
EC is "edge control," like a Remo Pinstripe. The G2 has no overtone control, only 2 plies.

Wouldn't it be great if WE could change Heads as easily as we can for our drums?

the dampening ring.....maybe. or just the heads are made better. i dunno. i DID use the pinstripes for a short time and after that used EC2s and the EC2s just sound a lot better a more natural. the pinstripes just sound more dead (not in the intended way)

Thank you for explaining that with details.
With me it was just the opposite. I had the EC2's on my ddrum kit that the guy at GC installed cuz he liked them. I thought they sounded too dead and changed them out for the Remo Pins. Now the drums have that resonant tone that was choked out from the EC2's. Just the opposite, I love the EC2 for the snare....no after ringing...
Funny how everyone has a different take on the same gear. I guess that's why there are so many choices any more.
So, sadly I have a set of barely used EC2's in 12", 14", and 16" that I haven't been able to find a home for.
Thanks, RF, for your perspective.

You do also have to consider your shell material and sizes here, guys. The EC2's in my experience sounded way different on my friends maple kit then they had on my birch kit. The same goes for the Emperors I'm using now.
