    Default Intermediate Hi-Hats?

I am looking for new hi-hats that cost no more than $200. They need to be 14 inch and have cutting sound both open and closed. I am currently looking at Paiste Alphas and Meinl Classics medium Soundwaves.
    Thanks!

Our church set has what to me sound like the ultimate Hi-hat sound, and good used sets are readily available for the price range you are looking in. We have Zildian New Beat Hi-hats and used sets can be had well under the price range you are looking in.
Gretsch Catalina Birch 6 piece fusion set (10,12,14,16in. Toms, 22 Bass). Sabian 20" HH Classic Ride, 16" Istanbul Agop Dark Crash, & Zildian K 13" Hi-hats.

    Check out www.cymbalsonly.com

You can find virtually hundreds of cymbals from splash to crash to hats and rides; and you can listen to each one and most major makers are represented as well. I can tell you that the quality of cymbals available there are first class all the way...I bought my last 21" ride and 14" set of hi-hats there, brand new and for a very good price.

Not to bury DMD's suggestion on the PST-5's, but out of personal experience, don't go there. You could find much more satisfying deals rather then getting stuck with a cheap excuse for an instrument.

I have some Zildjian ZHTs that have a great sound. I use this video from a local shop as an example.

I would go the used route. Professional cymbals just sound better for the most part and you probably won't have to upgrade in the future. Hopefully you could score some Zildjian New Beats or Paiste 2002 Sound Edge hats for your price range.

i would say 2002s and AAs are a little higher end than the others. but i have heard nothing or seen nothing about meinl classics, so those could actually be incredible. i just know that alphas are a little lower end than the 2002s and aas

The 2002's and AA's would have to be on sale or used only. Cause I seriously do not want to spend over $200.
