Man, this is one song that I've loved for years!!! I'm so surprised to find anyone else who is familiar with this tune.
I have an old live Jaco Pastorius CD called 'Punk Jazz' that has a killer version of this song with Steve Jordan on drums and Hiram Bullock on guitar.
Here's another (percussion-heavy) version of 'The Chicken':

Tell you what, you post that jaco live album on a free share site and I will be eternally grateful.!!

That is Erskine on the skins , He's real tastey, really grooves with jaco's stoccato style on this one. Man what a shame such a great player was lost and in such a tragic way.
Hey Bongo, name the percussion section will ya!!
what do you think of john pattatucci and weckle peachy? and have you heard Got match by the chick corea electric band?

Dude, I've never tried to mess with file-sharing sites before, but maybe this weekend I'll try to figure that out...
Yes, Jaco is a tragic figure alright.
Oh yeah, any of the Elektrik Band stuff is just crazy. How about 'Light Years'???

Return To Forever is coming here soon and I am bummed; I doubt I will go because I'm already going to some other shows soon and tickets to RTF are REALLY EXPENSIVE$$$!!!
For any of you guys/gals who aren't familiar with RTF, it was one of the best jazz/fusion bands EVAR: Chick Corea on keyboards, Stanley Clarke on bass, Al Di Meola on guitar, and one of my all time favorites, LENNY WHITE on drums!!!

Very cool. I have never seen Dave Weckl play. On "The Chicken" there is a video from Jaco Pastorius' Modern Electric Bass that has John Scoffield(guitar) and Kenwood Dennard on drums. This version is way hotter.
