I'm thinking of picking up a SONOR drum set and was curious if anyone here owns one and/or has any educated information they would like to share?

The kit I'm looking at is a 3005 Force Fusion. All maple shells so that is enticing.

Thanks for any information you can bring forth.

Man I love those drums! Can't tell you anything about them but I've always loved their cutting-edge, innovative designs with their drums and their hardward. They always seem to be a step ahead of everyone else. Sonor drums rock!

Sorry I have no educated knowledge as such but, if I ever decided to change the Gretsch. The sonor would certainly be a preferred choice I would change to. I love the 3005. I also think that Sonor has beautiful sounding snares.
I play, Gretsch Catalina Birch, 7 piece in the vintage sunburst finish.

RIP, Frank. You will not be forgotten. Missing you, mate

Agh, I wish I had seen this thread before and coaxed you into the Sonor. I personally think that Sonor makes some of the nicest drums around. Their innovative and flawless designs make playing them a dream, especially the 3005, it's maple shells sound gorgeous!
Congratulations on the Masters though, it's a nice kit as well.

Ah yes, the Masters kit. She's a beauty.
In case you end up looking at another Sonor in the future (I just have a feeling you will), I dig 'em. Had they been more affordable or had money not have been an option I just might be playing those instead of the Mapex. (It also helps them that my favorite drummer is endorsed.) They've got everything I personally look for in hardware, sound and configurations.

Ya know Bish, I've always liked Sonor drums, just never ended up buying any. Have you had a chance to check out those 3005s yet? I guess the thing that has held me back is the price.

But careful shopper that I am, that just might be something I will have to think more seriously about down the road......I'm sure there are some bargains out there. What about Delites or S-Class? If you bought the 3005 and really liked em, I'm thinking you would have that itch to upgrade?? Might be better to look at a higher line model right off the get-go??

I need to do some research and see what might be the best way to go myself. But it will be awhile for sure....I spent waaaaaaaaaay too much money on drums in the last year!!

Been there done that, keep saying it and have many T-shirts to go with the programs.

    But, it's now 2008. What's a guy to do?

I do need to do some more research as well. I don't know all the different levels of quality. As with the Mapex, I started out with MBirch and jumped right into Saturns. I do want an Orion set, just haven't found the kit or finish I like.

SONOR, TAMA, and Yamaha brands have still elluded me to this point. Pearl got conquered this year and I'm thinking TAMA or YAMAHA may get the trigger pulled on them later on yet this year. I'm looking at all 3 brands.

Just depends on how much gigging I get in. I also have a Gibby Les Paul calling my name. Damn blemished deals.

Man, I haven't been on the forum for a while, I've been a tad bit busy lately. I love my Sonor kit and would suggest it to anybody! I play a Force 1001 and it's wonderful.
    It's a classic.

Bish they are nice drums, go for it! I was seriously looking at them 6 years ago when I got my set, but at that time they were the 3000 series but I don't recall what the exact nomenclature was then. I decided against them then because the shells were not 100 percent maple and they didn't have the rims type mounts of any shell isolation mounting system. That has all changed now, so if I were in the market today for another mid line kit, I think they would be what I would buy!

I have to think that your concerns have been addressed. They show all maple shells and iso-mounts of some sort, now....

I know it sorta looks that way but it's not really how it is. I'm trading stuff and selling previous stuff. I'm not hording everything. (would like to, tho)

I'm in a quandry now due to deciding what to keep and what goes back. I have two weeks to make that decision. Gotta get busy tuning and playing.

    Bish:

Sorry I've been away for awhile so this post is VERRRRRRRY late. I think Sonor is by far the best drum manufacturer out there. Think German Engineering. I own two Sonor first gen S-Class sets and have owned a Force 2001 in the past. Have loved and do love each and every one of them. I've also got a refurbished vintage Sonor D454 Chrome snare, circa 1969 that is killer. I Would die for one of the new SQ2 series sets (BIG $$$$$) but will probably go to my grave with my well played and maintained S-Class. Here's a link to (what I think is) the best Sonor website out there:

    www.sonormuseum.com

Great bunch of people. Sonor geeks are kinda like Harley people - you know the old joke: wife said it was either me or the Harley (Sonor drumset). Gee, ya know, I'm gonna miss her.
