Regal Tip Quantum 3000 nylon tip - my weapons of mass destruction
Our church is thinking about replacing our old beater kit with real drums. Myself and a few others are pushing for Yamaha. I think they are one of the better values out there. They make nice stuff, but you don't pay extra for the name.Originally Posted by METAL DRUMMER

My first kit was Slingerland...then I got turned onto Pearl, and have played that brand for over 20 years. Always gloss black...love 'em !
BOOOOOO!!!
Went to a drum clinic tought by Jeff Campitelli this weekend. He's Joe Satrianni's drummer and a spokes-drummer for DW. After going over some of the stuff that makes DW a really trick drum he said that while they cost 5 times as much as other drums, they're not necessarily 5 times better. That last 5% of quality you get with this type of brand cost a ton of dough.
Although I really love Pearl, the poll didn't say "FOR THE MONEY" or best value. I believe the ultimate drumset is made by DW... Though they are a fortune!!! No question about it. If I had it paid for, I would definitely select a custom DW kit. You can have what you want, the way you want it with the finish you want.. You can have the shell type you want, cut the way you want it, plyed the way you want it.. With all that versatility, how can that be beat.. You just have to pay for it and pay alot !!! They have various hardware strengths including the new heavy, heavy duty stuff !!!! Think about it..
If I had to pay for it, it would be Pearl all the way.
Those arent real choices.
Tama.
^^^ SGD's Evans Empire ^^^
Aren't Pearl Masterworks also like that?
IMO DW drums are overpriced* for the sound you get... The best kits I've ever heard were Mapex Saturns and Tama Starclassic B/Bs. I definitely prefer the sound of Tama and Mapex. Either a Saturn or Starclassic B/B with Paiste Signature and/or Meinl Byzance Traditionals... OOOOOOOH YEAH!
* IN MY OPINION

OK all you DW haters.
Price price price...that's all I ever hear. For what I paid NEW for my DWs, I could BARELY get a Pearl Reference shell pack 3 piece. So, you think that the Pearl Masterworks line would be any cheaper???
And they don't even offer satin HW anymore. Point being, there is no way I could get my kit through Pearl for even close to the same amount of money that I paid for the Dubbs.

Well, I think the problem is, DW doesn't make budget kits like all the other manufactures, short of a completely different line/brand (PDP).
Besides, DW is on top right now, and thats where my vote went as well

ive looked at this thread a bunch of times, but i never voted in the poll until now. I think if money was no option, my dream kit would be a set of DWs. Ive liked every one ive ever hit, looked at or heard played live. They make some of my favorite finishes, and i even like the shape of the lugs... haha. There are a lot of awesome drums out there, but DW is my favorite.
