Fox, I think the bigger question is what kind of music do you play? Once we know that, I think you'll get some good suggestions that will mean something to you.
Hey all
My birthday coming up soon,yay
Im deffinately getting double bass pedals from my parents
but ive also saved some money and fingers crossed will get some cash from relatives and friends.it wont be nearly enough for a drum upgrade but im looking at cymbals. at the moment i have paiste 101's. I dont think im looking for a complete new set of cymbals maybe just one really good one that i love and will last me. Basically what im asking is: Has anyone else played the 101's and if so what would u upgrade 1st?
Thanks in advance

Okay from your signature, I assumed you were a playing a hard music?(lamb Of God...)
I used Paiste 101 for the first time I played Drums...And I upgrade it into Planet Z....Not satisfied....
So now I play with ZBT...and It Rocks !!!!
So I guess, You can grab some ZBT or ZHT(for softer sound)....
The other option, you can also grab Sabian B8, a lot of drummer here using B8....
I myself prefer Zildjian better than Sabian...and both of ZBT and B8 came with almost same price...

my suggestion since it appears you already have a cymbal package is to take the money and start looking at a higher end cymbal for instance a ride. actually play the cymbals at some music stores to find what you like and dislike. use that money to buy that first quality cymbal. quality trumps quanity everytime fox and one good versatile cymbal can take the place of two or three lesser quality cymbals.
Last Sunday my big band hosted a guest artist on the Vibes. It was a great afternoon of big band jazz. He's also a phenomenal drummer in the area. As we were playing he looked over to me and said..."there just aren't any bad Mel lewis Istanbul AGOP ride cymbals." He was telling me that he knows the cymbals for their quality and consistency in sound. It took me a while to settle on that particular cymbal before I purchased it because, whatever I bought, it was going to have to fit the music I play. I have no regrets and the money was well spent. Moral of story: like the respondents have urged, get quality first and foremost...it makes a HUGE difference.

But Fox if you still insist to buy some Cymbals Pack, ZBT Rock Set will be suitable for ya...It only cost me about 160-170$ that time....

I dont insist on buying a pack, quite the opposite lol
"I dont think im looking for a complete new set of cymbals maybe just one really good one that i love" i said that at the start of the thread^
But yeh i really like the look and sound of rudes although i hear theyre quite one dimensional?
meh i guess ill just see what i like and can afford
my main orginal question was out of the 101: 16" crash, 20" ride and "14 hats what should i upgrade,im not really looking for brands or models
Thanks

I think you can buy some new 16" or 17"Crash...Also buy some new stand...my main orginal question was out of the 101: 16" crash, 20" ride and "14 hats what should i upgrade,im not really looking for brands or models
So your set now have 2 Crash Cymbals ?? How bout that ??

Yeh that was my thought
The 101 crash needs to thrashed to get anything near a decent sound from it
so im thinking buy the pedals(£160) and 17/18" paiste rude rock crash(£160+) and ask for some kinda deal on a stand.
Thanks
