    Guys....
What stand you got to mount your Ride Cymbals ? Is it Boom or Straight ??

I've seen and played with many kit that use Boom for Ride and Straight for Crash...
I myself, use the opposite way.....
I use Boom to mount my Crash and Straight to mount my Ride...
I use it becoz I like my Ride mounted flat....and My Crash to have some angle....
    It is odd ??
Just curious.....What you guys thinkin' ??

Totti, I've done it both ways. It all depends on exactly where I want the cymbals. I simply use whatever stands give me the ability to place things correctly. Right now, I've got my ride on a straight stand, but I'm thinking about moving things around and eliminating a stand. My guess is that I'll end up with everything on boom stands with an extra boom arm clamped to a stand. BTW, I've placed my ride directly to my right before, and now I have it just off to the right of the 12" ride tom. Hey, it may stay there, or it may move again. One thing is for sure - I'll move things around until I get things exactly the way I like them, but if I add anything, I'm sure they'll move again and I'll use whatever stands I need!

I use a boom for mine. Without the boom, it's too much of a reach for me.

I mount my primary ride, flat, on the bass drum cymbal stand; secondary ride to my lower right by floor toms on a straight stand with a slight downward tilt. I use boom stands for both my crash cymbals. If I did not have the bass mounted cymbal stand, I would use a boom stand for my primary ride.

Straight for the crash boom for the ride...of course..I need the ride on the boom because there's a wall where a straight stand would be...

If your looking to buy another stand. I would go with a boom just because its more versitle than a straight stand.

i too use a boom for all things cymbals. the price difference between a boom and straight of the same denomination is very slim considering the versatility that is lost when buying a straight. you can always use a boom as a straight. i also use clamp cymbals mounts on my booms for addition brass.

I use a straight stand for the ride, and a boom for the crash. If I were to buy another it would be one of the convertable types, the boom can be placed in the hollow upright so that it can be used as a straight or a boom stand.

I used to use a straight stand with the ride sitting close to flat when I had two toms over each bass drum and had to have the ride over the floor tom.
On my smaller kit I had the tom offset so I used a weighted boom to put the ride almost right over the bass drum. On my larger kit I'm doing the same thing, but not so far over the bass drum.

Get a boom where the boom collapses into the the stand, then you have the ability to try it either way.

I put my ride on a straight stand sitting just over my floor tom quite low, and my crash on a boom because I like it to sit in between my two rack toms. If I play with 2 crashes, I use 2 booms and position them on either side of the toms.

I mount ALL of my cymbals and chimes on Tama Titan Series Telescoping Boom stands!! I love the look of those massive stands!! Having them completely surrounding the set... For me, the extra area they take up and the extra weight of them, are well worth the look they have. (Besides with my setup, straight stands are impossible to use...)

I'm with you cdaug, for the extra few $ the boom stand is much mor versitile....same goes for vocal mike stands, also the extra lower weight gives a little more stability
    cheers
