Do they only come in black, it appears so?

The seude come in more than black. Remo had an entire line of suede products before they came out with the ebony ones. Rumor has it that the reason suede heads were so unheard of were because they sounded close to terrible with a ringy resonance and high bite until Remo squelched the issue by creating the ebony version which was just what they needed to sound amazing. I may pick some up, those or regular ebony pins.

I am wondering how they sound in comparison to a coated head. Does anyone know?

PB...you can access the link that Dustin provided. It'll take you to Remo's site where you join Vimeo (free) to listen to these heads. I was actually impressed with both models...the Ambassador (single play) and the Emperor (double ply). I may have to re-think my next choice of heads.
It's a coincidence that I posted about these today, I actually just got back from ordering them. I'm pretty anxious to see how they sound in comparison to the ebony pins or clear emperors that I have on now (which I'm not too fond of).

Probably won't sound as loud as the clear emps. Coated heads tend to be a bit more focused and not project as loudly as their clear counterparts.
