Cool. Would love to see your work!
for being kind of creative! haha. I broke a Zildjian ZXT crash a while ago and didn't really think much of it until recently and I thought it would be cool to down size the thing from 16" down to 8" and make it an ozone type splash. I'll have pictures and possibly a video so you can see and hear it when it's done.

• How many drummers does it take to change a lightbulb?
Five: One to screw the bulb in, and four to talk about how much better
Neil Peart could have done it.
I would like to see it to.
Can't wait JD!

It's a start
The whole quarter that's missing is where the crack was. I just used a hacksaw to cut it off for the time being. The dots inside the silver circle are where I'm going to drill the holes to give it that ozone effect. All the lines drawn own are for my dad to take to work and work his magic (he's a welder and metal worker). I cut off the Zildjian stamp so I could make something out of it.
I know I write like a kindergartener, so laugh it up!

Don't worry about the writing! Dude, I can write like crazy, but don't ask me to rework your cymbal! It'd come out looking like a tie tack!
You've got your talent, I've got mine...we've all got something we can do!
(You do the cymbals, I'll write the commercial copy!)
keep the beat goin' ... Don't keep it to yourself!

Wow! I'd really love to hear how that thing sounds when done. Good luck with the project!
Question?
Do you think the bell may be too heavy to give a good splash tone?
The first cuts where made with a hack saw then a table saw. I then rounded it off by hand with a file.
It is really sound heavy, and I thought that would be an issue, so that's why I plan on drilling eight holes in it to see if it eases up on the bell tone. It kind of sounds like a Zil-Bel right now without the holes drilled.
Here's what it looks like now

Cool!!!! I thought maybe a laser cut, but the hand made way is the best!!
I wish I could have had it laser cut, but not today, haha.
I drilled four holes, and I'm getting a bell tone out of it soon. Although I didn't get the splash I wanted, I got a really good bell effect, so I can check Zil-Bel off the list of things to get.

Great experiment anyway! You never know until you try!
I had to try something with it. God gave me the gift of being really handy with tools so it was a shame to let a broken cymbal just sit there and atrophy. When my guitarist brings over some of our recording mics (we should start recording more music soon anyways) I'll make a video to demonstrate the sound.
