Depends how dirty or tarnished they are. I remember having a heavily tarnished A Custom a while back and the several commercial cymbal cleaners I tried did a minimal job. So I used Tarn-X and it immediately worked.

It also depends on the type of cymbal alloy as well, the lower entry level cymbals don't take well to cleaners like groove juice, kick brass etc. So be careful and make sure it is compatible.
