Hey everybody. I need some help...Somehow antivirus 2009 got installed onto my computer and it is driving me nuts! It keeps blocking websites (no, not porn sites..and no i haven't tried...) and i can barely move around the internet. I already uninstalled it, but it's still here. I used ad aware and that didnt get rid of it....Any advice?

There is a huge list of things you can try, short of buying a good antivirus program and booting from its install disk and following the directions.

You most likely have an executable starting up in your system startup. It reinstalls on each boot. For starters don't shut the computer off and it won't start up again once you find a way to shut it down.

You need to identify that in the configsys of your computer. You'll also have to go remove it from the registry. And you'll also have to clean out all your temp files everywhere.

This is not an easy task and especially with no guarantee you can find all its instances. You might cut your loses and just rebuild the computer.

Just use system tools, and do a system restore back to an earlier date. That is what I had to do to get Norton out of my computer. (Ed Norton, not the software.)

I can't help, but when you get it off your machine replace it with the free AVG antivirus.

I just got rid of Norton. I am using Zone Alarm. So far, it's very easy to use.

    Yeep,
See if Symantec has a removal tool. Shouldn't be too hard to locate one. Like Bish said tho you'll in all reality have to go in and clean out your registry manually. Try to download AVAST freebee and see if it will jump on it too. What a drag huh...
Q-Would you buy another one if it were stolen?
A-Well yeah... But, I'd probly turn into a homicidal maniac first!

I had the same kind of problem. I manually deleted it by pressing Start then My Computer, then clicking on my hard drive, then going into Program Files, then look for the unwanted file, then taking it to the Trash Bin.

Thanks for the help guys. The first thing I tried doing was manually deleting it, but it said I couldn't. So I went to Wiki.com and it had a list of scanners that would kill it. I picked out AVG (it was free) and This morning it finished the job. It got rid of a bunch of other stuff too. Also..Anyone know if Fire Fox is better than IE virus wise? Is it safer?...more safe...whatever..
