Hey Metal, I am a righty and when I first started playing, I pulled around the toms, but over time I have forced myself to be able to push or pull, depending on where I need to go after coming out of the fill.
I'M a lefty and if I'm correct, I play lefty on a right-handed kit. (Hi-hat on the left of the snare, toms are smaller to bigger - left to right, playing cross-handed.) Most people are righty, playing lefty, on a right-handed kit.
This is my question; when going around the kit (high toms to low), do you count/start with your right hand (pulling) or your left hand (pushing)?
If you "pull", your right hand is the first to move to the next tom.
If you "push", your left hand is the first to move to the next tom - then your right hand follows to that tom.
I'm a lefty - so I "push" when going around my kit. My theory is that right handed people "pull", (even though they play lefty). I'm very courious about this theory, so please say if you "push" or "pull", and if you are a lefty or righty. Thanks.

im anidextrus (cant spell) but if im right the i play on a right hand kit...like the one you described...and i pull most of the time unless a fill backs up on its self. Say high tom to lowest tom then back to snare for a roll then cymbals...when im going from low tom to snare i lead with my left hand
does this make any sense to you? -.-;i hope so...
PRACTICE SAFE BANGING!!! play drums! My Pearl Session Kit
i do either one depending on what roll and how long and to wher when and why and all that good stuff...
For me it depends on the fill. Being right handed, If I'm going from high toms to low toms my right hand leads, if I'm going from low toms to high toms my left hand leads.

I'm with 1drumbum. Think it depends on the roll your trying to do and the timing you use to pull or push for the sound you want.
