play till the day i die. it makes more sense that way.
"You should set up your drums around the toilet. You know you must use it everyday and lets be realistic, nothing better is going on when your sitting on there. Why not take care of business and play the drums." silver dragon sound
I am not opposed to that I think it will be great if they do it in my area.
They mention DW but then don't say they will be selling drums. Will it be kits, or hardware that they're selling? But I think I'll stick with my local drum shop as I know the people there and they sell the cheapest that I've seen.
2500 sq. feet is a lot of space. I can't picture my local Best Buy giving up that much room. This should be an interesting move. It's like a music store within a music store.
I have not made it up to the one in Richfield yet, but plan on getting up there soon to check it out. I had heard they opened it quite a while back as a test store, (since it's a stones throw from the HQ). I am anxious to see it.

I'm excited. If they sell quality stuff like GC, then I would go to best buy because it is a lot closer to my house than GC.
That's great! I have a best buy just down the street from our GC. Maybe we will get a price war going!!
If they start doing that down here in Miami, I would love it! We have Best Buys at every corner.

More competition. Whoo hoo! Capitalism rocks. It'll be interesting to watch where they draw their employees from for this. Is the kid who worked in the video game department going to try to talk me out of my favorite strings?

awesome! i hope my local BB is going to be one. i am an hour away from GC or MF. and the local stores have overcharged forever (1200 bucks for a cat maple 6pc w/ bad hw). as long as they compete pricewise with GC i'm all for it.

The world is really moving on or, is it the younger generation that is pushing to fast? Seems like more of us are wanting convenience over everything else. Nothing wrong in that, I suppose but, what about personal service and treatment? When I was growing up, we went to shoe stores for shoes, clothing stores for clothes and drug stores for medicines. Dr. made house calls too and you had a Dentist who could actually extract a tooth and not refer you to a specialist. We also had the local music stores and everyone who worked there knew their craft. They knew you by name and how best to serve you.
Maybe it's the Corporate non-entity that bothers me but, for whatever reason, I just don't trust these Big Box stores that want to sell me everything from aspirins to zucchini.
Anytime I buy some electronics at Best Buy I'm set upon to buy a warranty. Then I ask what's wrong with the product that I should want it warranted. I know what the deal is...free money to the store as most warranties aren't claimed. I just can't do business that way. Intersting, isn't it...you think Best Buy is going to sell warranties on drums?
I know, I'm old school...just plain old, I guess. But, I still enjoy walking into the drum shops around here, pulling up a chair and just talking drums with the store owner, clerks and other drummers who happen to be there. If I have a question about a product or service, I can get a straight forward answer and not be pushed towards buying something I don't want or need. I know that I can get answers and service at GC, we have one here and I have always been treated well by those who work there. I've even judged the GC Drum-Off. But, I will still go to the Mom and Pop dealer for anything more than a pair of sticks. Prices that I've seen are comparable to GC but the service, atmosphere, care and concern are genuine and not just "Product driven." Please, don't any of you reading this get offended...just reminiscing about the Old days and glad for what I have available to me.

I agree Fiacovaz, i like to go up to GC to look around and check out new stuff, but the sales people there just try and push things on me so they can make their commision, now i know its their job and everyone wants to make money. I make all my big purchases at a small local shop there because as you said, they know me and want to talk about more than just what i should buy. I would rather my money go to a local shop than a big corporation anyday and even if it is a little more expensive, the service is so much better.

More is better as it offers more options and hopefully a closer place to play and check out drums. Hope they carry a decent amount of hardware and don't favor a few brands. The first pictures of a BB keyboard department was all Roland. That sucked big time!!

I like Guitar Center. Unlike nearly all mom & pop shops, they have a great inventory of top of the line gear (Gibson, Mesa Boogie, DW, etc.) that I can sit down and play to my hearts content. Even when I'm just in there test driving something, I usually at lest pick up picks or sticks. That's good marketing.
As to being pressured, I've never found that to be the case. It's pretty easy to say "no thank you".

I've only set foot in a GC once, and that was because I was pressed for time and they were close by - I only needed a couple of minor accessories.
I have to agree with Frank for the most part (like that's something new!). My local music store is locally owned by the son of the founder, who started his business strictly based on high quality customer service. The son adopted his dad's philosophy. When I walk into the drum department, I'm always greeted by name, and I am far from their biggest customer. They just make it a point to know their customers, and always treat me like I'm somebody special. And even though they're a local store, they have a huge internet and eBay presence, so their prices are extremely competitive.
I shop Best Buy once in awhile, mostly just for a random cd now and then, but the store nearest me is seriously lacking in the customer service area. I usually have to track down a salesperson, and then they are from a different department and can't really answer my questions.
For those of you who will be provided with an option that is either closer or more competetive than other shops in your area, I wish you the best. But for me I just don't see this making any difference on where I buy my gear.
