One thing that I think is cool about Zep and many other British rock bands of the 70's is the way they took something old and made it new. These guys were all huge fans of the blues. They took a classic genre and mad it their own. In many cases they improved on the origional. I think some degree of "living in the past" is healthy for an artist. No-one comes up with creative ideas in a vacume. We all take what we've been exposed to and go from there. I believe the whole music community misses out every time an up & coming musician turns their back (ears) on bands like Zeppelin, or Yes, or The Who, or Bad Company, etc. That was the mistake the Grunge movement made, and it's why their music doesn't have any legs now and into the future.

And thats why most of them are old, smokkin', druggies.

Unfortuneately, all genre's have their druggies and everyone who doesn't die first ends up getting old.
