I got a local brand and they've always lasted a long time for me. Otherwise I would choose VF.

So what size sticks do you buy? How do you choose which is best for you?

As for me with my students violins I measure their arm length. Do drummers have a way of knowing? I bought some drumsticks in May I think they are 5b or something.

Let me know I am interested in finding out I have tiny hands but long didgits!

Recently I tried a pair of 7A. They're thinner than most drumsticks. I got a bunch of different ones in a set thursday. they ranged from around 3a to 5a. somewhere around those lines. for kids and students I suggest 5a.

Yeah most people use 5b, but I like 5a. 5bs are too big for my hands, but try out both sizes.

definatly vic over zildjen....i use 5a because they are lighter and easier to play softer with, but big enough to make a giant sound also

I played with some the other day at Guitar Center. They are super light weight, but after about 2 minutes, I started to get blisters on my hands from where the wrap stops. I tried the Tommy Lee and the Lars Ulrich signature sticks too and they all have that same problem. I love the feel but they just tear my hands up.

WHO CARES!!!! in my oponion Vic Firth are over priced, well for dumsticks. I would go with the Zildjian, just because i broke my first ever vic firths in like a week(perhaps i had the wrong wood type)and my Z's lasted for like 2 months!!!!!
the sticks looked incredibly bad, and eventually they died, but they gave an impressive lengthy run.....

but it doesnt matter, stick brands r not at all important in my oponion

Good choice . I'm using Pro-mark 7A's at the moment, but I'm usually using VF 7AN's.

I'm now trying out a pair of Vic Firth 8D's
They're quite good for me, but I'd like a heavier pair, there too light for me.
By the way, Vic Firth = Perfect Pair ?
