Thought i'd show you all my new setup- had it like this for a month or so and it's really growing on my. Doing my bonham triplet fills around 3 toms in the whole triangle thing is really working for me.

And one of my giant poster made with many sheets of a4!

I like it, I think Ian Paice from Deep Purple had his toms set up in a similar way.

Stevo, someone said that they thought the Gretsch Catalinas are made in a Mapex factory. I don't know about it, but I suppose it could be true.

    Nice tight set-up JL!

Sonor force series drums are made in the mapex factory but I haven't heard the Gretch Catalina series were also made there. My opinion is a drum shell is a drum shell if it is quality made. If the Mapex people are making shells for other companies like Sonor and Gretch then they could do a lot worse. The Mapex stuff seems really well made so that adds to the quality of any company buying their shells.

The main thing you will find different with the Gretch as opposed to the Mapex and the Sonor is, I believe the Gretch uses round over 30 degree bearing edges as opposed to the Sharp 45 degree edges on the other two mentioned kits. They all however sound very good, and are quality kits.

I believe the Gretsch Cat clubs, New classics and their 125th anivarsary usa custom be-boppers are cut 30deg. The Cat maples are cut 45 with a rounded inner angle..and as btd said..they all sound good! As for the Cat maples being made in Mapex's china facility? I have heard that from more than 1 (what I deem) reliable source. -Les

Yeah it took a LITTLE time, but i adapt pretty well. I have to, because playing with the school band and my own band, i'm on different kits all the time and theres not always time to set them up differently.

They sound real crisp, but they're REALLY heavy, so if you lay into them when they're half open, you get a really good rock sound out of 'em.
