That was really good!! What rudiments was he using? Maybe you can invite him to DrumChat.
I've been playing rudimental bass with a group of local drummers (as well as learning set) and we went up to Hamilton Ont. Canada, last weekend to play. This was my debute as a rudimental drummer, and the drummer who has been helping me learn Bill McGrath is on you tube with the solo he did up in Hamilton. Here is the link:

lots of stuff in there, clean doubles nice flamas and the triplets were tastey, sounded real powerful too.
Official cowbell hater.
Very clean, crisp and attentive to strict tempo as well as dynamics. Excellent Rudimental form in execution of the Flam rudiments and open stroke rolls. Watching that took me back a whole lot of years...thanks for posting!

Thanks for the comments I'll send Bill a link and have him check them out himself. He's actually been around for a while, he's instructed several drum corps, and is in the Drum Corp Hall of fame. His solo took second place, the first place drummer just got back from touring in Europe and only beat him by one point.

Maybe not...I've known a lot of excellent Rudimental snare drummers with "Chops" that would make you want to throw your sticks away. Most of them, however, are quite poor when it comes to playing on a drum set. Rudiment are a very strict and highly disciplined study. Adapting that to the drum set is not as easy as you might think.

Very good point Frank. And I believe the reverse is true as well.

He actually is a pretty decent set player too, plays for the Greater Rochester Swing Orchestra, that I play trombone for, also played with the Army reserve band that I was in (we are both retired now), and we played a lot of Jazz, and rock. He can really do a lot on the set, as well
