    Default Drum Amps?

Does anyone have the Simmons DA50?

Is it worth it, or will any old small bass or keyboard amp do?

I'm not gigging or anything like that. It's home use only, but who knows what the future holds.

Not familiar with the Simmons amp, but even if you start gigging with it, you'll probably be running sound through some kind of house system/sound board and just use the amp as a "monitor" for your drums. Cheap and clear would be my criteria, rather than the ability to melt faces.

not familiar with the simmons, whats the specs?

I would go with a keyboard amp , full range with a 15 and a horn,
the bass amp will not give you highs u need.
I bought a peavey kb4 75w as a stage monitor and home practise, but I prefer head phones!!
I blew the tweeter on the keyboard amp, so I stepped up to a powered 200watt sub and a powered 550 watt 2 way top cabinet for live gigs, I seldom use the peavey now!! guess I can trade it on some eliminators!! also choose a model that is easy to find parts and repairs for, im close to toronto so I went with Yorkville, as that is where the factory and repair shop is, plus they make killer sound gear for a fair price.
also mackie and jbl are a good choice but silly money. the mackie dealer structure in canada was a real mess a while back. ok now I here, good luck.

Are 10" speakers the norm on this type of amp? I'm asking because 10" suck on a guitar amp.

I went to my local GC and tried it out and I was not thrilled. It couldn't hold the high tones like cymbals or open HH without distorting. Sounded pretty bad.

Looks like a keyboard amp will be in my future.

Sounds like the same kind of performance you get out of a guitar amp with 10" speakers. Those things are ok for a little bedroom amp at low volume, but you try to crank 'em up and they distort something fierce.

Bringing this back - I got a line on a used 100w Peavy TKO 115S bass amp for $100.

    -2 imputs (high and low)
-High and low EQ shelving (increases or decreases a larger frequency range)
    -100 watts (soild state)
-1 x 15" Sheffield speaker (mid range quality)
-7 band EQ (very useful as it increases the sound variations of your bass)
-'bright' switching (boosts the high frequncey, adds more punch to sound)
-FX loop, headphone jack, preamp out, poweramp in.

    Sounds like a good buy

LOL, yeah, I've been emailing him. He seems pretty cool. We'll set up a time and I'll bring my DTX module and a pad and give her a few whacks to see how it sounds.

Well, he never emailed me back after we agreed on a price. I guess someone else paid him more. Whatever. I bought a used Peavey Keyboard amp from someone else. It's a KB60. It has some mileage on her but for $75 it aint bad.

I just went through the process of pricing an amp for my Roland kit, with the prospect of gigging with them. I found that the cost of a decent amp with enough grunt was as much as a resonable quality accoustic kit, so the choice was obvious - accoustic it is!

I use an acoustic guitar amp, its brilliant, the sound quality is great couldn't fault it. I wouldn't use it if I was gigging but for home or rehersal use its brilliant.
