    Default Rudiment Question for Audition

When you play rudiments does it matter how fast you can play them or does it only matter that you play them correctly?

Good question Stokes!! I would guess being correct. If they are sloppy, they are not true. I would like to know the answer, too.

play the piece where it should sit tempo wise if you can, but if the difficulty level is beyond your present grasp at a certain tempo then obviously play the piece at a tempo that demostrates accuracy over speed, try to be as fluid and precise as you can. This only comes with practise practise and more practise.

If this is an audition speed will be a factor, but if the person you're auditioning knows drumming, they won't be impressed by speed alone. You'll want to demonstrate how fast you can play them cleanly. Play them as fast as you can play them cleanly, and hope for the best. Good luck with the audition.
