Just ignore him.
First off, Thank you to all that have responded to my questions thus far. I have been out of the gigging scene for some time and things have changed a bit since the...um...80's.
I have access to microphones. one set is Samson and the other is digital reference. I wonder who uses what and which is better? Thank you all once again.
I.D.
I think they took you seriously
sorry about your luck!!

Wish I could help I.D. but I'm not familiar with those mics. I'm still using the old 57's and the D112 in the kick. We use different sound companies too but I don't keep up with what they use.
I don't really know much about Digital Reference mics, other than I believe they're made by Audio Technica? Audio Technica mics have a pretty broad range, so it depends on which ones. If they're above the entry level line, I would definitely go with those over the Samsons.
Samson drum mics are fairly entry level, but will do the job. I'm not a sound engineer, but a lot will depend on your mixer, how you mic the drums, and how many mics you use.
I'm more familiar with Shure, Audix, AKG and Sennheiser personally.
