Cool Conga kid, bongo banger, tabla terror, djembe jammer?

Thought I'd make this one tougher than usual since most hand drummers, myself included, dig playing anything they can slap, strike or shake. Guess what I'm tryin' to determine is: If you could play one--and ONLY one--hand drum, which would it be?

Strange for me to say this given my member name, I'd go with a good conga drum!
keep the beat goin' ... Don't keep it to yourself!

I would have to go with an Ashiko. I can get more sounds out of that one than any of the others I have (plus the bass is a boomin'!).

I guess that would make me an Ashiko Afficianado! (i think i spelled that right)

I'm not really a hand percussionist, but I went to a drumming workshop and saw this guy play a tabla like you wouldn't believe.

    So, tabla it is!

Amp--that's why I said this was a tough question! Djembes have a tribal sound and feel to them that even the best bongos and congas don't have...so I may have to re-evaluate my original post...after I do some djembe jammin', eh?

keep the beat goin' ... Don't keep it to yourself!

Djembes' and Ashikos' are very similar in sound and playing style. I have found that I like to keep the head on my ashiko looser than that on my djembe so I can get some real earth shaking bass out of it and still have the nice highs on the rim that my djembe has.

Ive made several ashikos in the past. When i get time ill post some pics.
I love the sound of all hand drums, so ill choose the comfort of a djembe
in a nice strap because of ease of playing position

Hah, I've always been a big fan of my producers marijuana leaf djembe. But I personally like my classic bongos the best, probably because I've had them for so long I know just how to get the most sound out of them.
