ive found that most kids..atleast in my school...find speed to be the attenion getter...they apparently suffer from the duillison that the faster someone can throw notes togather the better they are....so come up with a maderately fast tom solo and throw a bass beat behind it with the ocasional cymbal where you think it would sound good.....or you could just play YYZ's solo

John Bonham's (Led Zeppelin) Moby ****. good example of a great solo without blazing speed.

Can the censorship program be taught to read context, by any chance? LOL

No but humans can. I think its pretty obvious what song it is when you have Led Zepplin and the word Moby in the same sentence. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

Hello there Mr Insane. RowMock here, remember the old saying when doing a drum solo Less is more! "Let me explain" Try a single hit instad of a Five stroke roll. You just might find that the fill will make a melody all of it's own, and fit right in. If you read and write music make up your own solo.

    Yours truly,
    RowMock the Magnificent.

I have to perform a short solo soon as well, and as much as I can pull out things at band practise, I don't think anything like that would be good enough to do on stage.

    Any pointers?

keep it simple and good and don't try to go tooo insane or it may end up being worse than it would have been otherwise...people are much more forgiving about simple than they are about sucky....

A good player can play all the notes,
A true artist can pick out the best ones.

-sometimes simplicity is best- somtimes its not..it depends on whats going on in a peice. If your just playing for the hell of it do both
