He's sounds great for his age. I think he'll do real well if he stays with it.

Hey RD...No wonder you are so proud of your son! He's a solid player and I'm sure that he will develop into a truly ourtanding player.

Lol. Yeah, I just wish I had a better set up for sound. All you can hear on the recording is the cymbals. It doesn't sound like that live at all.

hmmmmmmmmm, very nice, great interplay between the kick and snare/toms, nice independence and some nice use of different diddle and triplet patterns. I like what I see, He has a natural ability that shines thru and he is obviously having lessons from a good teacher, based on his approach and tecnique. 2 more years solid practise and he will be scary level.
really like the tom pattern to kick fills he has developed. top marks.

Thanks, rat. I really appreciate your comments. It's hard for me to even judge his playing any more. Jazz is just over my head much of the time, and I'm often not sure if he's going all Miles Davis, or it really is that random. I'd like to hear more solid groove, but he wants to be a wild man.

RD... let him run with it. All that spastic creative energy will take him places. I've been there. He will develop LOTS of chops and that will get him very far. He can tailor it all as he goes. He'll be forced to if he wants to work. lol

By the way, most "real" good players with lots of chops tend to overplay when they're young. So I don't see it as bad at his age.

Nope thats not random, its pretty much funky grooves with some real nice fills. good stuff.

Thanks guys. I'm not forcing anything. Well, I preach about the importance of putting in serious daily time on the kit, but otherwise he's his own drummer. He's so, so far beyond me now that all I can do is support, pray, and hope some college/conservatoire wants him in 3 1/2 years.

I do have to add, though, that when he's got a band in front of him it's a different story. I've never seen a 14 year old who can drive it like him. I know there are some out there, but there aren't any around here.

Try moving the camera lower and more in front of the kick. You will pick up way more drums much easier.

Yeah, I do need to move around to improve the sound. I'll try getting down like you say, but it's gonna look weird.
