Haven't used it on cymbals. As far as drums, just place it around till you get the sound you want. In my case, I have two pieces on my snare and floor tom about 1/4 inch form the hoops on opposite sides. Works for me.

Moon Gel will stick to what it lays on and not move around. The beauty of it is that you can move it to where it gives you the dampening effect you are wanting. I use it on my floor tom and metal snare and keep it close to or draped on the rim and drum head. Also, you can cut the Moon Gel into smaller pieces and really fine tune your drums.

I dont mate but its the "ring" that helps carry the sound.

oh great another damp cymbal vs dont damp thread

listen. its totally fine to damp cymbals

yeah, if you play live, you want that little bastard to ring as much as possible

but if you play in small spaces, like a garage or you are doing recording, it would be pretty stupid to let that bastard ring for 20 seconds.

the moongel wont do much other than kill the ring. it wont effect the sound by that much if at all.

so to sum it up.. YES. slap some moongel on that sucker

Moon Gel, I haven't used it for years. But still I have to admit, that stuff is genious! Works really well. Never seen or heard somebody use it on cymbals or related items, only on drums. Quite interesting that you want to put it on your cymbals. Does that mean you made the wrong choice of cymbals when you bought them?
