Shannon Larkin is one of my favorite drummers, but a lot of people say he's a "Techical drummer" What is that!?

this is very general and there is all kinds of area in the middle but normally most people fall into one of two categories, groove /feel players or technical players. Technical players tend to play complicated patterns and time signatures while groove players tend to be more concerned with how the music feels more then focusing on technicality.

And there are toms of great players that fall into one or the other as well as great players that are in the middle.

Then there are the lucky few that really can do both well, Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta for example.

This always a subject of great debate as I would be willing to bet this thread will produce

Seems to me we had a thread here some months ago about which is better...technical drummers or emotion drummers. If I recall, the issue resolved itself in that most of us agreed that it's important to have technical proficiency but to have the "Feeking" in our playing is what makes the groove work. It's kinda like Louis Armstrong's anwser to what is "Swing.",,,, Man, if you have ask you will never know.
There's a lot to be said for Time Honored tradition and value.
