Default Software for writing music notation?

I keep running into drummers who post up PDFs or images of sheet music for drums. I curious how they are creating these. When I figure out a new fill I like to write it down. It takes me a while to commit it to memory and if I don't write it down I find myself having to listen to it and figure it out again if I haven't played it for a day.

Well my handwritting is terrible. So if there was some software (preferably freely available) to create the sheet music, print it, save it, etc that would be awesome.

Scorewriter. It's not free but it's affordable.
