    Default Hoops help

Last time I changed heads, I noticed that some of the hoops seemed out of round a little. Not surprising given the age, heavy use and different locations the kit has been in.

I'm considering putting new StarCast on them, and I'm wondering if the shells are out of round how that will turn out? Anyone with any advice or experience?

How do the heads fit on the shells? It's more common that the hoops get "Out-Of-Round." What I did with one of my hoops that did, was to roll it on the floor while putting a little pressure on it to make it more round. It did the trick and now seats comfortably on the bearing edge. The drum itself is 44 years old as is the hoop.

That's a good point! The heads seem to seat fine, so it must be the hoops, which is good news! Very interested in getting the newest Tama tom mount and new Starcast for the rack toms (probably not the floor tom), so I'll probably get hoops for all 3 toms. Although it's been beat up by my pedals, the BD hoop seems fine and I have a Tama Metalworks snare.

Funny how I don't see that as an insult because I'm 40!
