Well after much research I pulled the trigger. First and foremost I want to thank Jeremy at Mapex Super Store.
I ended up with a 6 piece Pro M Classic with an additional 10" tom in Bermuda Sparkle, and a Sabian B8 Pro cymbal pack.
Now is a great time to buy the Pro M's.

Does anyone know the model of these? They had a wax finish. I don't believe that the finish was around that long.

the original "saturn pro" had kind of a different finish, like a mild lacquer almost a brushed matte kind of deal. might be them, if so, rare indeed.

I am getting a Mapex VX kit next week !
I cannot wait to join the Mapex crew in a couple of weeks! i will be sure to post pictures!
Although for cymbals i can only spend around £200 so i will either get ZBTs or B8s, which ones do you think would be better for me ? i play Indie, Pop and R&B.
Cheers Alex

Cool Alex G!
Mapex drums are the beez kneez!..that is to say...very nice drums
As far as the cymbal choices you listed, they are pretty much on equal ground. The Sabians (to me) actually have a tad more "musicality" to them.
I will almost always recommend that you look for used higher end cymbals. That way you get the good stuff outta the gate and with used you aren't paying that much more than new sheet bronze. The resale on the cymbal packs you listed is very low, should you decide you want to upgrade.
Good luck and happiest drumming!

I got me a QR kit a few months back...very pleased...and I also got some B8 cymbals to go with it. I've never tried ZBT's, but if I were you I would listen to each one and decide which is nicer to your ears. I have no complaints about the B8's. I've heard more negative comments about ZBT's than I have of the B8's...if that means anything. Either way, there is a HUGE difference (for the better) in sound quality than you get from cheap brass starter cymbals. B8's and ZBT's are no doubt Sabian's and Zildjian's largest user base as every newbie and low budget drummer flees to those for their needs. While not unique, they ARE good quality. Their purpose is to lure you into their higher quality offerings, which are no doubt better, but also a heck of a lot more expensive. Even buying them used won't save you much...as high end cymbals seem to hold their value...even if damaged they are ridiculously priced. I'd say get several nice sounding cymbals (B8's or ZBT's) for less than the price of ONE high end cymbal.
ORRR
Paiste PST5's, or Meinl MCS. From what I've heard,(and been able to play) I would rank the Top 4's starter set cymbals as such:
1. Paiste PST5's
2. Meinl MCS
3. Sabian B8's
4. Zildjian ZBT's
I've played a PST5 thin crash. It was awesome. An MCS ride. Pretty washy, but I liked it. And a whole set of Sabian B8's. Good quality, but paiste and Meinl have them beat IMO. And I've never played ZBT's, and from what I've heard, I don't want to
